This beautifully illustrated companion guide to the Touriseum offers an easy overview of the history of tourism in the Alps. The 18 chapters and over 400 photographs follow the general layout of the exhibition. Each chapter starts with an introduction describing the economic, cultural and social background to the relevant stage in the history of tourism. These are followed by short accounts of individual exhibits, events and personalities. A chronology refers to major events outside the region. The book aims not only to complement and augment the exhibition, but also to fill a gap. Despite the long tradition of tourism in the region, there was no overview available of the whole period from the arrival of the first tourists right up to the present day. This book does not set out to be an academic catalogue, but an easily-accessible reader for the general public, locals and tourists alike. The author, Josef Rohrer, was a journalist for 20 years. He subsequently became a museum organiser, and was a member of the team of four responsible for the creation of the Touriseum. "Zimmer Frei" also contains an introductory essay by the South Tyrol historian Hans Heiss. PREMIO ITAS 2004

Das Buch erzählt lebendig und anschaulich die 700-jährige Geschichte von Schloss Trauttmansdorff, von der ersten Erwähnung des Schlosses im Mittelalter bis zur Umgestaltung als museale Attraktion 2003. Trauttmansdorff. Geschichte(n) eines Schlosses ist damit mehr als nur eine Chronik. Das Buch lässt sich auch als eine Geschichte Südtirols lesen. Il libro racconta in modo semplice e vivace i settecento anni di storia di Castel Trauttmansdorff, dalla prima citazione documentata del castello nel Medioevo fino alla sua trasformazione in un museo nel 2003. Trauttmansdorff. Storia & storie di un castello è dunque molto più che una semplice cronaca. Può essere letto, infatti, anche come una storia dell’Alto Adige.
